Established at the University of Delaware in 1972, the Institute of
Energy Conversion (IEC) is devoted to the research and development of
thin-film photovoltaic solar cells and other photonic devices. The IEC
is a totally integrated laboratory focused on fundamental materials and
device research carried out in parallel with process engineering
studies and analysis of film deposition and processing. This enables
the correlation of the properties of completed devices with their
fabrication, all in the same lab. Close collaboration between IEC staff
and industrial partners ensures that the research is relevant and
includes state-of-the-art process development.
